Will Google just add these features to NotebookLM natively?
It's a fair question. Google ships new NotebookLM features regularly — audio overviews, video support, deep research, and more. Some capture-related features could appear natively over time.
But Google has shown no signs of building a browser extension, and the NotebookLM roadmap is focused on synthesis features, not capture. Every week without a fix is a week where your research flow breaks.
If Google does eventually ship a native equivalent, it validates the problem. You can always reassess then. The Pro plan is $3/month — it's not a long-term commitment.
What Google can't ship natively:
The most valuable capture features in Kaptex aren't ones Google can easily replicate: - Claude and ChatGPT conversations — Google can't access private conversations on a competitor's platform. Kaptex reads them directly from the page while you're there. - Cross-platform tab sweep — A Google extension reaching into your full browser session to import open tabs carries privacy implications Google would be slow to ship. - Reddit threads with comment structure — Reddit and Google have a complicated relationship; a Google-built integration isn't guaranteed.
Even if Google ships URL capture natively, the AI conversation and Reddit capture gap is likely to persist.
