How to add YouTube video to NotebookLM

  1. Open NotebookLM and navigate to your target notebook.
  2. Click the "+" or "Add Source" button in the sources panel.
  3. Select "Website" or "YouTube" from the source type options.
  4. Paste the full YouTube video URL (format: youtube.com/watch?v=...).
  5. Click "Insert" — NotebookLM fetches the transcript automatically.

The video must be public with captions enabled. Private videos, Shorts URLs, and playlist URLs often fail — use individual video links for best results. Once added, the transcript appears in your source list and you can query it, generate summaries, or ask questions about specific moments in the video.
