Can you upload mp4 videos to NotebookLM?

NotebookLM does not accept MP4 video file uploads. Supported source types are: Google Docs, Google Slides, PDFs, web URLs, YouTube links, audio files (MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG), plain text, and copied text. Video files in MP4, MOV, AVI, or any other video format are not supported.

If your video is on YouTube, add the YouTube URL directly — NotebookLM handles the rest. If it is a local video file, the workaround is to transcribe it first using a tool like Whisper, Otter.ai, or Adobe Premiere's transcription feature, then upload the resulting text file as a source. NotebookLM will process the transcript like any other document.
