What are the best uses for NotebookLM?

NotebookLM is strongest when you have multiple dense sources that need to be understood in relation to each other. The best use cases:

  • Research synthesis — cross-reference papers, find agreements and contradictions, generate literature reviews
  • Exam prep — upload course materials, generate study guides and practice questions grounded in your specific content
  • Meeting prep — load decks and reports before a call, extract key talking points
  • Content research — summarize interviews and articles as inputs for writing
  • Legal and policy review — ask questions across long contracts and regulatory documents
  • Podcast and lecture review — add YouTube videos and use Audio Overview for passive learning

It is less useful for real-time information, mathematical calculations, or tasks requiring up-to-date web browsing.
